Tim Cook starts with iPhone and how popular it is. The fastest selling phone in history.

Tim introduces a video. It looks like a Samsung video with happy Apple fans queued up, but without the mickey-taking. I don’t go in for all that hoopla.

Everyone loves the new iPod and 3 million have been sold.

Now we’re on to iOS 6. 200 million devices now running iOS6 [half those people are lost].

125 million documents now in iCloud.

300 billion iMessages sent. 28,000 sent every second.

160 million Game Center accounts. Is that all?

$6,500,000,000 paid to developers. I wish I’d had more of it.

We’re told that iBooks is very popular as an app and that 400 million books have been downloaded, (but many people like me use Kindle instead).

There is a new version of iBooks with a new continuous reading mode and iCloud and sharing integration. Support for 40 languages.

Mac

The Mac has been ‘outgrowing’ PC sales for the last 6 years. The MacBook is the number one notebook in the US.

Today is apparently a big day for the Mac. There’s a new 13″ MacBook Pro. 0.75″ thick and weighs almost a pound less than the previous model. The new model has a retina display at 2560 x 1600. One of the stats is a 75% reduction in reflection. That’s a good thing. I’m sure he just said it’ll all flash storage. I wonder what the degradation issues would be?

There’s a new Mac Mini. It’s a bit better.

iMac

The new iMac looks thin! That could be the camera angle. It is really thin at the edges (5mm) and not very deep at the back. A new technology called friction stir welding is used. There’s a plasma deposited anti-reflective coating. Yay!

There is a new Apple Fusion Drive with 128GB flash and a 1 or 3 TB HDD combined. The OS goes on the flash drive for speed. The Fusion Drive and Mountain Lion optimise storage to put the most accessed content in flash.

Now he’s talking about iPad. Surprise. 100 million iPads sold.

iPad has 91% of the tablet web traffic.

We just had a quote from someone in education called Ponce. [Snigger]. iPad is making big inroads into education and changing the way students learn.

Phil Schiller Again

There is a 4th generation iPad with a new A6X chip. Faster processing and graphics with the same 10 hour battery life. LTE support with more carriers. Faster wifi. Better camera. Uses the lightning connector. The new version is priced at the same as the current model.

iPad Mini

At last. Here it is. This is a new device that can be held in one hand. It looks thin, like a colourful Kindle. 7.2mm thick. 0.68 lbs. Screen size. Here we go. 1024 x 768. That’s a relief for a lot of developers. The last thing they wanted was another resolution to support.

Phil is doing a comparison with an Android tablet. The iPad is of course much better in every way.

The mini has the A5 chip and an HD Facetime camera. The camera is a 5MP. It has LTE capability and faster Wifi. Battery is quoted as 10 hours, the same as the 4th generation larger version.

The Mini starts at 16GB.
